There is a new energy rising among Christians in the South Pacific.
About MRN
The Gospel and the South Pacific
DR. STEVE SMITH

People in the South Pacific need the gospel! In Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands there are about 30 million people.

Yet, there is nowhere in the world with as much geographical isolation and cultural diversity within a single region as the South Pacific community.

There are more than 300 Churches of Christ across the South Pacific...

and most of these have less than 30 people. The size of these churches is perhaps a reflection of what happens when a large population is thinly spread across an enormous geographical area. There are more than 3000 populated islands in the South Pacific. Even Australia and New Zealand have many small churches separated by great distances.

Physical separation makes it difficult to share the kind of resources vital to training leaders and equipping Christians to serve. Historically, this isolation means that it has been hard for many churches to sustain themselves, let alone have an impact on their community.

Healthy churches in regional centers like Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Auckland are vital because they can act as resource centers for the churches in smaller, isolated communities. They also have the potential to become springboards, providing access and resources to these isolated locations, so the gospel can be shared in the thousands of smaller communities in rural Australia, New Zealand, Papua-New Guinea and the Pacific Islands.

There is a new energy rising among Christians in the South Pacific. For the first time church leaders from Australia and New Zealand are getting together regularly to discuss, develop, and drive their own strategy for regional church growth.

It has been almost 20 years since a team of U.S. workers has planted a church in the South Pacific. It's time for it to happen again! There are many locations that provide great opportunities for potential church plantings.

Together, Christians from the South Pacific and the U.S. can forge a collaborative approach to establishing healthy churches that meet the real spiritual and social needs of the communities in which they exist. Missions Resource Network hopes to serve as a catalyst for growth in the region.

We are already consulting with churches and church leaders and holding special events to:

Aid in the development of a regional strategy
Target church planting opportunities
Recruit teams in the Pacific and the U.S. to establish
sustainable, healthy churches
