Open Our Eyes That We May See
BOB WALDRON, Executive Director

On a dark night many years ago, a contingent of Aramean soldiers silently surrounded Elisha with murderous intent. Elisha’s faith was unwavering, but the same could not be said of his servant, for as he awoke the next morning and saw the sunlight glinting off the spears of the enemy’s army he cried, "Oh, my lord, what shall we do?" (2 Kings 6:15-20).
Elisha responded "Don't be afraid. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." Then he prayed, "O LORD, open his eyes that he may see." And see he did. With new vision, he beheld the fiery army of God encircling Elisha to ensure his victory over the Arameans.

When we are overwhelmed by the forces arrayed against us, let us pray...

Lord, Open Our Eyes To See Your Power.

Elisha declared, "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." Paul asked, "If God is for us, who can be against us" (Rom. 8:31)

Ours is the powerful God of creation who spoke the heavens and earth into existence and formed us from a handful of dust.

Ours is the powerful God of the Exodus who redeemed his people by "great power and brought them out of Egypt with a mighty hand" (Deut. 9:26). Let this be our prayer, "Summon your power, O God; show us your strength, O God, as you have done before" (Ps. 68:28).

Lord, Open Our Eyes to See the World’s Needs.

Like Elisha, today’s nations need rescuing from the enemy. Nearly 40 percent of the world’s population is located in cultures that have yet to hear their first words of the gospel. There is no Scripture to brighten their night, no comforting hope for the storms of their lives.

I pray for the dawning of a new day when God will be worshipped by multiplied millions of new disciples. Yes, I pray for the dawning of a new day when every man and woman will hear the gospel of Jesus in their own language and culture, and every boy and girl will grow up in homes that honor the Lord.

O God, give us such a day. Open our eyes that we may see that you are waiting to bless your people with power to bring healing to those whom you created in your own image.

Lord, open our eyes!
