The Mission Imperative
BOB WALDRON, Executive Director

What is it that moves some to leave their homeland and become foreign evangelists?

The outcome of Christ's mission to this earth depended upon how seriously men took these words: All authority has been given to me in heaven and earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations.

This thought brings to us the solemn realization that at the heart of world evangelism is the tenderness of each Christian to the will of Christ. There can be no more profound reason for being evangelistic then the simple fact that the resurrected Lord of heaven and earth demands it.

Far from being a legalistic approach to missions, a healthy sense of duty is the response of love. Jesus stated it clearly: If you love me, you will keep my commandments (John 14:15). While preaching to Cornelius and his household in Acts 10:32, Peter declared that Christ commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed....... When the people of God accept the claims of Christ upon their lives and understand that the desire of Christ is the redemption of lost men, it would be as easy to reverse the flow of the Amazon as to keep them from making disciples throughout the world.

Paul summed it up well: For I am under compulsion; woe is me if I do not preach the gospel (1 Cor. 9:16).
