Day 10
Good morning, friend, and happy Sunday!
Today is Dharma Day, the main reason we’ve set aside this season to pray for Buddhists. It commemorates the day on which the Buddha began to teach his first five disciples. Having been enlightened the day before, he laid out the most important tenets of Buddhism: the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. Buddhists believe the Eightfold Path, if followed closely, can lead one to freedom, to perfection, to nirvana.
Hopefully you are able on this Sunday to gather in freedom – physical and spiritual – with brothers and sisters in Jesus. As I pray over how Buddhists seek perfection through perfected actions, my mind is taken to the first sermon given by a Spirit-filled believer after Jesus’ ascension. Peter, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, stood up to declare that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved – all because the crucified-and-raised Jesus has been made both Lord and Anointed King.
And Peter, the one who denied Jesus on the night He was arrested, knew better than most that perfection comes only in Jesus’ name!
Today, friend, as Buddhists around the region of the Bengal Initiative set out lights to remember the light that came with the Buddha’s teaching, ask that God would reveal Himself as the True Light. Pray that the Wisdom of Jesus would cut through all the wisdom and teachings of people to shine for what it is. Pray that God would move among unreached Buddhist people groups in such a way that whole families, whole tribes, whole nations would soon be willing to stand and proclaim that Jesus is both Lord and Anointed King!
May it be so.
