Day 5
Tomorrow we will be led in prayer by Joel Lillie in an online gathering at 8AM Central Time. Let’s start being led by him a day early. I’m putting below a call to prayer Joel posted on changethemap.net, a site dedicated to building a prayer movement for the Buddhist world. Pray along with Joel as he leads us to the Father concerning spirit houses.
Throughout Southeast Asia, Buddhists place a spirit house on a stand outside their homes somewhere on their property, usually toward the front where it can be seen. This spirit house is meant for a territorial spirit who is believed to own that property. Each spirit house has a small shrine where Buddhists place cheap food, drink, and burn incense. If the spirit house is near the Buddhist's home, they ask for health and peace for those inside, as well as good luck and success each day. Thailand is especially famous for these spirit houses.
There are also spirit houses in public places, some of which are extremely prominent. Buddhists go to these spirit houses to ask for success in life and work, more money, or even to sell a lot of products or make a good deal when entering a place of business. There is an incredible amount of spiritual bondage to these spirit houses in Southeast Asia. But Christ has power over all of these spirits! One of the signs of Buddhists becoming believers is destroying the spirit houses in front of their homes. This can lead to fear and persecution from their Buddhist neighbors.
Pray that Christians would demonstrate Christ's power over the spirits to which Buddhists offer prayers and offerings.
Pray that Buddhist converts to Christ would be bold as they destroy their spirit houses, and show their neighbors there is no need to fear when we have the Spirit of God.
