Praying for Newly-Arrived Workers
There’s always something about beginnings. Whether they are beautiful or hard or exciting or confusing or fun or terrifying, they are sure to be memorable.
This month, we are praying about workers who have newly landed on the field. If you’ve been praying with us through this year, you’re aware that a worker’s journey begins long before they land in their new home; calling, assessment, training, and partnership with senders all precede plane tickets. But, Lord willing, at some point workers get on a plane and go someplace new. That’s what we’re praying about this month – that initial season of newness for cross-cultural workers.
As I sat to shape prayer points for you to join me in praying this month, it dawned on me that I should ask the experts! While workers only days on the field are not experts in much else, they can speak with authority to what it feels like to be newly arrived in a place to which you’ve been called. Here is what a newly arrived sister of yours is asking you to pray this month:
For new workers to make friends and find spiritual community both within their team and outside of it.
For God's favor over things like:
visas,
travel,
bank accounts,
housing,
transportation,
schooling,
furnishings,
food allergies, and
other logistics;
Pray that the Lord would provide the means, the relationships, the knowledge, and the
creativity to complete these tasks and actually manage to attain the right things.
For individuals, marriages, families, and teammates to be filled with abundant grace – for themselves and for each other – during the stress of transition.
For wisdom and tact in the casual conversations that begin to establish one's identity.
For discernment between those who are just curious about the newly arrived and those who are persons of peace.
